Application Procedure
Applications to TAMU are processed through EngineeringCAS, the central online application service used for all graduate engineering programs at TAMU, at the following electronic address: https://engineeringcas.liaisoncas.org/apply/.
For application to the DMDP, students are required to submit the following:
1. Application through EngineeringCAS, available on the online platform.
2. Statement of purpose, approximately one page in length and no longer than two (2) pages.
This statement must include a brief presentation of the applicant, the applicant’s academic and general background, as well as the applicant’s interest in biomedical engineering. It must also include justification for the choice of Texas A&M University and of the specific program of study, reference to specific instructors or members of the academic staff with whom the applicant wishes to collaborate and the reasons for this choice, as well as any other information that may facilitate the Admissions Committee in evaluating the application.
3. Unofficial transcripts.
If the applicant is admitted to the Program, official transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Admission of Texas A&M University before the applicant is permitted to register for courses. For international applicants, evaluation by World Education Services (WES) is not required; however, both official and unofficial transcripts must be translated into English.
Transcripts shall be considered official provided that they bear the original signature of an authorized official of the educational institution or the institution’s original seal. Acceptable signatures include, among others, those of the Registrar, Director, Examinations Officer, or Ministry of Education. Photocopies or other copies, such as certified copies, faxed documents, or scanned documents, shall not be considered official. If the foreign institution does not issue documents in English, the applicant must submit the official document in the original language, accompanied by an official English translation. Official translations must be issued by a recognized translation service and must include all original seals and/or signatures.
4. Three (3) letters of recommendation.
The letters of recommendation/evaluation letters are not required to have been received at the time of application submission; however, they must have been received by the meeting of the JAC. The applicant may monitor through EngineeringCAS the progress of the requests for letters of recommendation. The applicant may also send an email reminder to the recommenders or choose to send a request to another recommender. If a recommender has difficulty receiving the electronic request from EngineeringCAS, they may need to log in through the EngineeringCAS platform. When submitting a request for letters of recommendation through EngineeringCAS, the applicant must indicate in the comments field Texas A&M University and the program to which the application is being submitted.
5. Required application fees.
All applicants are required to pay the Texas A&M University application fee. International students are also required to pay the EngineeringCAS processing fee.
6. Curriculum vitae.
The curriculum vitae must briefly reflect the other criteria on the basis of which the applicant will be evaluated. These criteria include: specific courses successfully completed, professional experience in the engineering industry or broader professional experience, research experience, professional activity or service (including, indicatively, participation in and/or leadership roles in professional organizations and STEM outreach programs, as well as teaching/mentoring experience), professional or scientific presentations and publications (including, indicatively, poster presentations, conference presentations, authorship in publications, conference proceedings, books, and patent applications), as well as awards and honors.
7. Language requirement for international students.
Certain international applicants are required to provide proof of English-language proficiency in the form of results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Applicants are exempt from this requirement if they hold a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. institution or are residents of the countries listed on the website of the TAMU Office of Admission. The examinations must have been taken at least eight (8) weeks prior to the relevant application deadline in order to ensure the timely receipt and processing of the results. Official TOEFL results must be sent directly from the testing center to EngineeringCAS (code B887) in order to be considered official. Official IELTS results must be submitted electronically by the IELTS testing center. Paper Test Report Forms are not accepted. The applicant must contact the testing center at which they sat for the IELTS examination and request the electronic transmission of the results through the IELTS system to: Texas A&M University (College Station and Galveston).
Submission of GRE scores is optional for all applicants. Applicants who already have GRE scores (or are able to obtain them) are encouraged to submit them. In addition, applicants with a lower GPA or applicants coming from an institution that may not be sufficiently well known to Texas A&M may benefit from submitting a high GRE score.
The application to AUTH, together with the necessary supporting documents (in JPEG or PDF format), is submitted electronically to the email address of the Secretariat of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (info@meng.auth.gr).
For application to the DMDP, students are required to submit the following:
1. Application form, as made available on the website of the Program.
2. Copy of the applicant’s national identity card or passport or other lawful identification document, such as, indicatively, a driver’s license.
3. Curriculum vitae. The same shall apply as for TAMU.
4. Three (3) letters of recommendation. Their submission is optional. If they are not submitted, the letters of recommendation submitted to TAMU shall be taken into account.
5. Statement of purpose. The same shall apply as for TAMU.
6. Unofficial transcripts. The same shall apply as for TAMU, with the additional requirement that undergraduate degree titles and, where applicable, graduate degree titles must also be submitted.
7. Proof of English-language proficiency. The same shall apply as for TAMU.
8. Certificates of professional experience, where applicable.
9. Any other document that the applicant considers relevant to the evaluation of the application.
At the application stage, applicants are not required to submit original documents or officially certified copies of their supporting documents, but may submit simple photocopies or electronic files in widely accepted formats (e.g., JPEG, PDF). In the event that their application is accepted, they shall be required to submit official degree titles and official transcripts before their admission to the Program.
Applicants who have not yet obtained their degree title may submit an application by providing a relevant certification from the Secretariat of their Department, stating the number of courses or other academic requirements remaining for the completion of their studies (such as, indicatively, a diploma thesis or undergraduate dissertation), as well as their grade point average up to that time. In any case, if the applicant is admitted, the degree title must be submitted at the time of enrollment. If the graduation ceremony has not yet taken place, a certificate of successful completion of studies shall be submitted, while the official degree title shall be submitted after graduation. Otherwise, the applicant shall be excluded and the next applicant from the waiting list shall be invited.
The application deadline shall be set as February 1 of the year in which the Program commences. However, applicants from outside the United States are encouraged to submit their applications by December 1 of the preceding year in order to ensure sufficient time for processing. At least thirty (30) days prior to the expiration of the application deadline, a call for applications from prospective graduate students shall be published and posted. Following the expiration of the application deadline, the evaluation of applications and the ranking of applicants shall be carried out by the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC).
Applications for admission to the DMDP shall be evaluated by the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC). The Committee shall use a student information database to assess all materials submitted by the applicants. Following the review of the applications by the Committee, the applicant’s admission shall be approved or rejected through a voting procedure. Based on the outcome of the vote, all applicants who are admitted shall be notified by the JAC via electronic communication. Furthermore, the Office of Admission of Texas A&M University and the Secretariat of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of AUTH shall communicate the official decision to the applicant.
All applicants shall be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
• the overall grade of the undergraduate degree [up to thirty percent (30%)],
